- United
Bank - Atmore
Founded in 1904, as the Bank of Atmore, United Bank is quickly approaching a century of
service to the south Alabama communities we're proud to serve. By 1915, the bank's assets
stood at $128,488 with a 90% loan-to-deposit ratio. Since our inception, agribusiness has
been an integral part of the local economy. Our bank survived the Great Depression
although one-quarter of American workers were unemployed and social benefits such as ag
price supports were not yet considered. Growth and prosperity endured through the 1960's
and 1970's, and the bank expanded its Main Office time and again, and opened its Flomaton
branch as well as a new Atmore branch. During 1982, the Bank of Atmore created a holding
company, United Bancorporation of Alabama, Inc., purchased its Frisco City location and
opened a branch in Monroeville. It also began operating as United Bank, and headed into
this decade with a host of technological improvements including ATMs, Advantage 24
Bankline telephone service, check imaging, and more. In the late 1990's, additional
branches were opened in Foley, Lillian and Bay Minette. The newest branches opened in
Silverhill in March, 2001 and Magnolia Springs in June 2001. Today, United Bank is
routinely recognized as one of America's strongest banks by national bank ratings firms.
United Bank's expansion onto the Internet is an exciting opportunity to better serve our
customers and introduce others to United Bank's style of "high tech, high touch"
banking. We are committed to the communities of south Alabama. Our past, present and
future prosperity is founded upon this singular mission.

- First
National Bank of Jasper
The First National Bank of Jasper was organized on June 1, 1905. It has served the people
of Jasper and Walker County, Alabama, continuously since its incorporation. In the early
years, a gentleman who was more of a merchant/businessman than a banker operated the bank.
During his tenure with the bank, poor lending decisions were made and the bank found
itself with a large number of substandard and non-performing loans. This led to some very
shaky times, but new management was brought in during the early 20's and the bank began to
clean up and gradually charge off its substandard assets. When the Great Depression
arrived in the late 20's and 30's, the bank was beginning to show good progress and it was
the only one of three banks in the city that did not fail. It did survive a run on the
bank. With the influence of the local United States Senator, John H. Bankhead, the run was
stopped. Senator Bankhead got up on a chair in the lobby and addressed the crowd waiting
to withdraw their money. His reputation and calm explanation of how banks operated
satisfied the crowd and many of the people began to redeposit their funds. First National
Bank has always been the dominant financial institution in our county that has a
population of some 70,000. In 2000 the City of Jasper had a population of 14,000. The
assets of First National Bank of Jasper at December 31, 2002, were approximately $535
million. The bank operates four offices in the City of Jasper and four branches in the
county and towns of Carbon Hill, Cordova, Curry, and Dora.

quick decisions for it's clients. Led by its President Alan Worrell, Sterling Bank's
dedication to flexibility and responsiveness has been the key to its enviable record of
service and success.
From the moment you enter a Sterling Bank location, the difference is immediately clear.
There are no tellers blocked by tall counters or long lines of people waiting to be
